Asta Hill

Hi, I'm Asta.

I'm a Mparntwe local, a lawyer, a parent, and am serving as the Mayor of the 15th Alice Springs Town Council.

As a lawyer and human rights advocate, I have worked for more than a decade to improve access to justice for Central Australians.

Outside of my work, I've been an active contributor to community life in Mparntwe Alice Springs. I've served on the boards or organisations like the Arid Lands Environment Centre, Red Hot Arts, the Women Lawyers Association of the NT, the Young Lawyers Association of the NT.

I got deeply involved in local political campaigning through the No New Pokies Mparntwe campaign, a grassroots community campaign seeking to block the granting of new poker machine licenses in our town. Through that campaign I felt the strength of local people banding together to have their voices heard, and the sense of hope and camaraderie that comes from it.

Now as the Mayor, I am committed to fostering political participation, grassroots decision making, and genuine listening and consultation.

I want to make Mparntwe Alice Springs a cohesive, thriving and actively anti-racist community where diversity is celebrated. I want to ensure that this town that I love is safe and liveable under an increasingly hot and hostile climate. And I want to make sure that our town is inclusive, accessible, and affordable for everyone to enjoy.
