The federal government must act immediately to restore funding it has stripped from community legal centres to ensure tens of thousands of people don't lose access to justice.
Greens' justice spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said the cuts, which are due to take effect from July 1, would deny tens of thousands of Australians legal advice.
"These cuts will mean more than $840,000 is ripped out of Tasmanian community legal centres in the next three years," Senator McKim said.
"Community legal centres provide legal advice to those who need it most, including survivors of family violence, and people who cannot afford lawyers."
"The government needs to reverse these cuts as a matter of urgency."
"This is yet another example of the government stripping money from those who can afford it least, rather than cracking down on tax dodgers and the top end of town."
