Greens call for stronger protections for LGBTIQ people in their schools and workplaces

The Greens have noted today’s poll showing nearly 80% of Australians oppose religious schools having a free pass to discriminate against LGBTIQ people, and have called for stronger anti-discrimination protections.

“Having lost the marriage equality debate, the far right of the Liberal Party are setting their sights on attacking LGBTIQ people in their schools and workplaces,” said Senator Janet Rice, Greens LGBTIQ spokesperson.

“They clearly intend to use Philip Ruddock’s review as a Trojan horse to entrench discrimination.”

“The Greens remain a strong voice against this right-wing agenda.”

“Australia needs to strengthen anti-discrimination laws, not weaken them,” added Senator Nick McKim, Greens Justice spokesperson.

“Now is the time for Labor to stand up and reject any further watering down of protections against discrimination.”
