Liberal confusion: Are the three federal Tasmanian MPs for a 15% GST?

2015-11-04

Greens Senator for Tasmania, Peter Whish-Wilson said, “With the federal Liberal Government-driven GST reform campaign gaining pace, it is important for the Tasmanian people to know where their three federal government MPs stand on the issue.
“While some mainland Liberal MPs have come out against the proposal, we have heard nothing from the federal Members for Bass, Braddon and Lyons.
“The state member for Bass, Sarah Courtney, came out yesterday against this tax hike. Where is the federal member for Bass, Andrew Nikolic?
“Any increase in the GST will have a harder impact on Tasmania than on many parts of the country so the local community has a right to know where their MPs stand on the issue.
“The positions of Labor and Liberal are so confused on this issue. The Greens are the only party with a consistent position.
“There are so many more equitable ways to raise revenue for Tasmania that don’t hurt the most disadvantaged in our society. Looking to hike up the GST is the lazy way out,” he concluded.
