The Greens welcome the Small Business Ombudsman's report on late payments and call on the government to take strong action against unfair practices by big corporations.
"Big businesses are basically treating smaller traders and freelancers like piggy banks," Greens Small Business spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said.
"As the report shows, payment times by Australian big businesses are the worst in the developed world."
"The deliberate withholding of money by government and big business is sending too many small businesses to the wall and creating significant financial stress for too many people."
"The government has to show leadership on this issue and ensure that agencies are paying their debts to small businesses on time."
