Truth finally ekes out on Manus Island shooting

2017-05-22

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has finally started to concede facts about the Good Friday shooting attacks at the Manus Island Detention Centre.

"Today the department finally conceded that nine people were injured in the attacks, that multiple firearms were used, and that shots were fired directly into the centre," Greens spokesperson for immigration Senator Nick McKim said.

"The Department has known this for some time, but has refused to correct its own erroneous statements."

"Despite the concessions, the department continues to stonewall on further details of the incident, and refused to correct Peter Dutton’s lies."

"It beggars belief that departmental staff have been fired upon by an M16 assault rifle, yet the ABF commissioner is yet to ask his officers for a report from the people he had on the ground when the attacks occurred."
