Charlene McLennan

HI I'M CHARLENE, YOUR CANDIDATE FOR ROSEVEARS IN THE 2026 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL ELECTION!

I’m a lawyer, mediator and community advocate, and I’m proud to be standing as the Greens candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Rosevears.

I’ve been committed to social and environmental justice my entire life, through community service, committee work and environmental campaigns.

That commitment has been shaped by lived experience: I’ve lived through two major bushfires, the Dunalley fires in 2013 and the Black Summer fires in the Dorrigo Tablelands in 2019. Those experiences made clear to me that climate change is not a future threat, but a present reality.

During the Black Summer fires, I served with the NSW Rural Fire Service and was actively involved in firefighting efforts. After the fires, I worked with a local committee to secure government funding to rebuild our community, restore landscapes and strengthen resilience for the future. That experience strengthened my determination to see meaningful climate action and better planning to protect people and place.

Since returning to Tasmania for the third time, I’ve re-joined the Tasmanian Greens and stepped up to run as a candidate at both federal and state elections. Alongside this, I work full-time in family law, where I work closely with people facing very difficult times in their lives. As a nationally accredited mediator, I bring practical experience in listening carefully, narrowing complex issues, and finding respectful, workable solutions.

My priorities for Rosevears are sustainable development, climate action, and supporting vulnerable members of our community, particularly around housing security. I believe in being honest about the challenges we face while remaining optimistic and solutions-focused.

I have two teenage children, and I’m standing to help build a safer, fairer future for them, for our community, and for all Tasmanians.
