Hi, I'm Crystal!
I'm a social worker, a mum and a Turners Beach local – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Central Coast Council.
I grew up in Devonport and live in Turners Beach with my husband, our two teenage girls and our dog. My connection to the natural environment started early – I had my own little patch in Dad's veggie garden, and we spent every summer at Hawley Beach with cousins, swimming, cycling and fishing. Captain Planet may also have been key!
I've been a social worker for 15 years, counselling family carers and supporting Social Work students. Backpacking around the USA in 2004, I came face to face with the stark reality of homelessness, racism and mental illness – a life-changing journey that set me on the path to social work. In the years since, I've come to deeply appreciate the inextricable link between social and environmental justice, and the deep connection between people and planet.
My connections here keep growing through school, work, yoga, dance, environmental and music groups, and shopping with small businesses.
This election I'm focused on housing and cost of living, safe and inclusive spaces that promote community connection, and climate resilience. Central Coast Council is already doing great work and I'd like to support and extend it. My focus will be listening and responding to the needs of the community.
