Hi, I'm Lukas!
I'm a community advocate, a Huon Valley Councillor, and a proud migrant who chose this valley as home – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Deputy Mayor for Huon Valley Council.
When I migrated to the Huon Valley eleven years ago, I instantly knew this was where I wanted to build my life with my wife and our two sons. Contributing to and being involved in my community has been a big part of that life ever since – through Landcare, our local Primary School Association, and working with Circular Economy Huon and the Cygnet Association on a sustainable housing concept for the Old School Farm in Cygnet, demonstrating that development can embrace community connection and resilience rather than just profit.
I've been on Huon Valley Council since 2022, and that experience gave me insight into the workings of local government – but more importantly, it strengthened my connection to this community. I'm convinced that democratic representation is crucial for a healthy society, which is why I'm watching the Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 and planned amalgamations with real concern. Less representation means undermining the very foundations our communities depend on.
My interest is in strengthening our communities and making them truly sustainable and resilient. Re-thinking how we live, work, learn, consume and move around – and taking advantage of the unique place we call home – offers boundless opportunities to create local solutions to the challenges we face.
