Hi, I'm Maureen!
I'm a healthcare professional, a farmer, and a proud Huon Valley local – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Huon Valley Council.
My husband and I have lived and worked here for over ten years with our growing family, and we feel proud to call the Huon Valley home.
Together we've worked to rejuvenate our farm: restoring the natural environment, welcoming native wildlife and planting many trees. We grow much of our own food, minimise waste and reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources, and I'm proud that my children are growing up with the same strong sense of environmental responsibility.
Through my work in healthcare I've met lots of people with a range of views, ideas and passions about this area – and we all want the same thing: a safe, thriving and healthy place to live. This community has so many skilled, creative and hard-working people contributing to its culture and to the sustainability of our resources. I want to support them, and do all we can to keep this place healthy and thriving through the financial and environmental pressures we're facing now – and ready for the ones ahead.
We live in an exceptionally beautiful part of the world, and I spend much of my time outside in it – walking, running, cycling, swimming, kayaking and sailing. The risk of damage from human impact is evident, and I can't stand by and do nothing.
This election I'm focused on the health of the whole community and the environment that supports it, on affordable housing, and on making sure the Huon Valley is properly prepared for fire.
