Rosie Putland

Hi, I'm Rosie!

I'm a digital accessibility consultant, a disability advocate, and a proud Burnie local – and I'm running as your Greens candidate for Burnie City Council.

I grew up in regional Western Australia in a low-income household, the first in my family to finish high school. I've experienced the justice system as a victim-survivor of family violence and childhood sexual assault. I didn't finish university, but I taught myself to code during the early days of Covid, found my way into digital accessibility, and built a career helping organisations across Australia create systems and communications that actually work for everyone.

In 2022, my husband and I moved to Tasmania, and in early 2024 we bought our first home in Burnie. In the space of a single month I quit my job, started a business, and was diagnosed with cancer. Managing treatment alongside multiple disabilities while living regionally was one of the hardest things I've done – and it clarified exactly why this work matters.

Through it all, I kept building. I founded the Tasmanian Accessibility Community as a social enterprise, worked on podcasts amplifying the voices of disabled Tasmanians, and took on national digital advocacy campaigns with Children and Young People with Disability Australia – work I'm still doing today. This June, I'll be heading to the UN in New York to represent young people with disability on an international stage. I've also been proud to support Greens candidate Vanessa Bleyer on her state election campaign in Braddon, and serve as co-convenor of the Braddon Branch.

I chose Burnie because it reminded me of Albany – it felt like home from the start. I love the foreshore, Fern Glade, Romaine Reserve. This community has welcomed me, and I want to give that back.

This election, I'm focused on making Burnie genuinely welcoming – accessible streets and walkways, free and reliable public transport, investment in community centres and youth spaces, and a Disability Advisory Group so that disabled residents have a real seat at the table. A liveable city is one that works for everyone.

See you out there,
Rosie
