“AFTER 14 YEARS IN THE SENATE IT’S SOMEONE ELSE’S TURN TO CARRY THE TORCH AND TO HAVE THE IMMENSE PRIVILEGE TO REPRESENT YOU ALL IN FEDERAL PARLIAMENT.”
– Senator Peter Whish-Wilson
Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has announced his retirement
Pete will continue his parliamentary work over the months ahead, remaining an active and committed Greens voice during the transition. His decision comes with deep confidence in the strength and continuity of the movement.
“The forces rigging our economy, undermining our democracy, polluting and destroying our planet, and stoking hatred for their own political ends – they are counting on all of us to give up. That’s their strategy… and there is no bloody way that’s going to happen!
It’s helped my decision to know there are so many good people who have demonstrated they are willing to fight for our movement and proudly walk the path of others before me like Christine Milne, Bob Brown and Di Hollister.
They will also be walking shoulder to shoulder with my friend and comrade Nick McKim, indeed all our federal Greens Party Room and their teams. I’m so grateful to have had that opportunity to do this myself these past years.”
