The NSW Labor Government has broken its promise to end the privatisation agenda and is selling off public homes.
Meanwhile, more than 65,000 households who are eligible for public housing are languishing on the waiting list.
They’re continuing Liberal/National-era plans to demolish the Waterloo public housing estate (the biggest in Sydney!) and replace it with mostly private dwellings, evicting public housing tenants in the process.
Meanwhile, they’re selling off public land identified through a public land audit that was meant to find sites for new housing – with no requirements for housing to be delivered on it. Once this precious public land is gone, we’ll never get it back.
Building more public housing on public land needs to be a top priority – along with ending tax concessions for landlords, regulating rents, and building genuinely affordable housing. The last thing the government should be doing is demolishing or selling public homes we already have.
