Last night the ICAC released their findings following a lengthy investigation into misconduct by a former Inner West Council employee, and employees and contractors from Transport for NSW. The ICAC found that ten former employees and contractors for Inner West Council and Transport for NSW had engaged in corrupt conduct. The corrupt conduct relates to a series of train station upgrades dating back to 2014.
Kobi Shetty MP and Greens Spokesperson for Democracy and ICAC says:
“The findings released overnight demonstrate the importance of a properly funded and fully resourced ICAC.
“This finding shows the ICAC working as it should, to investigate alleged misconduct and bring to light any corruption that has taken place. The ability of the ICAC to investigate complaints that come before it is absolutely critical for a fully functioning democracy.
“Our community needs to have faith in government officials. We need to trust that processes are in place to detect misconduct and hold people to account.
“I hope that in the upcoming July budget, the government recognises the importance of the ICAC and increases their funding to ensure it can continue to investigate and act on allegations, promptly and thoroughly.”
