Candidate for Mitchell

If you want change, you need to vote for it! And with Labor pushing further to the right, The Greens are the only progressive option. The people of Mitchell deserve a choice for the environment, for social justice and for a sustainable future.

I grew up in The Hills, with my family and now live here with my wife. I am now a high school Maths and Science teacher, an enthusiastic musician, chorister and active Greens member. I believe that The Greens have a vision for a more sustainable and equitable future for Australia. With a love of bushwalking, cycling and exploring the beautiful landscapes of New South Wales, I am motivated by a strong sense of responsibility to protect our environment and communities.

My values most strongly align to The Green in the core areas of Environmental Sustainability and Social Equity. I am committed to a rapid transition to renewable energy, aligned to a target of net zero emissions by 2035. This includes investing in public transport, active transport, higher tree canopy coverage and cheap, green renewable energy. I also believe that manufactures have a responsibility to reduce their waste and ensure that they pay for recycling infrastructure.

On Social Equity, I will fight to ensure that all Australian have access to quality healthcare and education, including expanding Medicare to cover dental and fully cover mental healthcare. Social security also needs to be lifted to a living income, rather than trapping people in poverty. Our tax system can also be more equitable by ending tax concessions for the wealthy, such as negative gearing, and making big corporations pay their fair share.

The momentum in The Hills is building. Mila Kasby has shown that Greens can be elected, and re-elected. People are tired of the two-party system that has failed to deliver meaningful change, and Mitchell is ready for a party that truly stands for a sustainable and fair future. This Labor government has increased emissions, approved more mining and done little to build inclusion and justice in our society. The Greens have increased their vote in middle ring suburbs around the country. My aim would be to outpoll Labor in Mitchell and stop the Liberal party taking this seat for granted.  Through an active campaign, where all residents are met by a Greens member, campaign material is widely distributed, and people’s voices are heard, we can become a stronger voice in Federal parliament to create a fairer, greener future.

Ben for Mitchell!
