HI, I'M SCOTT JORDAN
In my early working career I worked as a Youth Worker during the recession of the 1990’s. I saw the suffering that neo-liberal policy wreaked on communities, and the generation of young people it left behind. This led me to the Greens.
For over twenty years I have been at the forefront of environmental campaigns in Tasmania. Both within the Greens and through my work with Save the Tarkine and Bob Brown Foundation I have fought for the protection of the Tarkine and for an end to native forest logging. Forests stand today because of campaigns I have led against those that would see our wild places destroyed.
I have represented you for twenty years as your representative on the Australian Greens Policy Committee, and our lead delegate to National Conference. I have served five terms as State Convenor. I know our policies, our processes and our party structures because I have helped you build them. I understand that the best leadership walks alongside, not in front.
My values are Greens values. We don’t back down, we fight for those who need champions, and we believe in our bones that our environment cannot be sacrificed on the bonfire of corporate profiteers. We understand the power of building people-powered movements, and we understand that the right to organise, to protest and to dissent is fundamental to preserving democracy. And we understand the urgency.
The Senate must be a place of powerful activism, following the examples of Bob Brown and Christine Milne. Our values are not just speeches to the Parliament. Our Senators must represent our values and amplify the passion of our movement.
With your support, I will continue to fight, combining the passion and skills shown in two decades of activism, with the tools and powers of the Senate.
