Alistair Allan for Senate

HI, MY NAME IS ALISTAIR ALLAN, AND I AM STANDING TO REPLACE THE MIGHTY PETER WHISH-WILSON WHEN HE RETIRES FROM THE SENATE.

A little bit about me: I have spent my whole adult life as an environmental campaigner all around the world. I am a former Sea Shepherd captain, having spent 11 years at sea, working in ocean conservation. I have been to Antarctica to stop the illegal killing of whales and sailed along the West Coast of Africa working with governments to help stop illegal fishing. I’m currently working as the Antarctic and Marine Campaigner at the Bob Brown Foundation where I have campaigned against the big industrial salmon companies polluting our public waters.

I live in Dodges Ferry, on Mumirimina Country, and I love every part of Lutruwita / Tasmania’s incredible environment, from its rivers to its forests and towering sea cliffs. Most importantly, I feel a sense of community that I haven’t found anywhere else.

With my 15 years of public campaigning, I am driven by a sense of justice and a hope for a better and fairer future – from housing inequality to stopping the genocide in Palestine. I am invigorated by the challenge of speaking truth to power and standing up to the big corporations and the political parties that they influence. I am excited to fight for all of The Greens’ values and know that all issues are interconnected. After spending over a decade making noise to drive political change, I’m ready to dive into the belly of the beast and fight for a fairer and safer future for all. As a young person, I want to bring a sense of hope and possibility to politics.

I believe this is more important than ever for our communities here in Tasmania, and across Australia.
