The Victorian Greens have said transport planning in Victoria is a secretive mess that is in breach of the Transport Integration Act and have called on the government to set up a long-term integrated transport plan.
Quotes attributable to Victorian Greens spokesperson for transport, Sam Hibbins MP:
“Transport planning in Victoria is a secretive mess that is in breach of the Transport Integration Act.
“The Victorian Government’s failure to have an overarching transport plan means it’s little wonder that despite billions in transport infrastructure investment, there are still so many gaps in the system.
“The reality is people are still waiting 20 minutes for a train and an hour for their local bus, and face unsafe bike routes and pedestrian crossings in their communities.
“Our tram network remains largely inaccessible to people with disability, and the government’s mega toll roads are environmental and financial disasters, with transport now the fastest-growing source of carbon emissions.
“The Greens previously moved an amendment that would have compelled the government to table the transport plan they are required to have under the Transport Integration Act but it was blocked by Labor and cross-benchers.
“Victoria needs a long-term integrated transport plan with clear targets for mode share and emissions reductions, or critical yet simple improvements to our network would continue to be missed.”
