Making public transport free is a practical step the NSW Government can take right now to provide immediate cost-of-living relief.

People across NSW are being squeezed by the rising cost of living. Families are paying more for groceries, rent, electricity and petrol, while wages struggle to keep up.

Making public transport free is a practical step the NSW Government can take right now to provide immediate cost-of-living relief.

Free public transport would put hundreds of dollars back into people's pockets each year, reduce traffic congestion, cut transport emissions, and help everyone stay connected to work, education and essential services. It would also reduce demand for petrol, leaving more fuel available for people who have no alternative but to drive.

A permanent fare-free public transport system would eliminate the need for an expensive privatised ticketing system, reduce the costs associated with fare enforcement, and allow more investment in delivering better public transport.

At the same time, the NSW Government must invest in more frequent and reliable buses and trains, particularly in Western Sydney and regional communities, so everyone can access affordable public transport.

We call on Premier Chris Minns and the NSW Government to make public transport free across NSW and invest in the services our communities need.
