Public transport should be fast, frequent and free, not a financial burden on families already struggling with the cost of living.
NSW commuters pay thousands of dollars each year for buses and trains that are unreliable, infrequent and poorly connected. Meanwhile, Tasmania has made public transport free, Queensland has fares as low as 50 cents, and Victoria has slashed fares by half.
Imagine living in regional NSW and knowing you could get to work, school, hospitals or shops without relying on a car or planning your day around an unreliable timetable.
The Greens have a plan to:
- Make buses, trains, metro, light rail and ferries free during this cost-of-living crisis.
- Expand services across outer Sydney and regional NSW.
- Bring bus services back into public hands.
Free and reliable public transport would put more money back in your pocket, reduce traffic and pollution, and connect more communities across NSW.
