People should get access to the care they need, not just the care they can afford
Imagine being able to see a GP, dentist, nurse or psychologist in your local community without paying out-of-pocket costs. Imagine public dental, mental and allied healthcare all in one place, without endless waitlists and admin.
Generations of Australians fought for and won free, high-quality hospital care. Yet outside hospitals, people are left to deal with separate private clinics, long waiting lists and one gap fee after another. As costs rise, people put off care and their health problems get worse and more expensive to treat.
This is because both Labor and Liberal state governments have continued to pour taxpayer money into treating the symptoms of our broken, privatised system, whilst corporations buy up clinics, gobble up the profits and leave healthcare workers stretched and stressed.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The Greens have a plan to:
- Slash the time it takes to get free public dental, mental and allied healthcare
- Establish free community healthcare clinics, so you can access a GP, dentist, nurse or psychologist within your local area, with no out-of-pocket costs
Pay public clinic healthcare staff a salary instead of paying them for every appointment, so they can give each patient the time and attention they need
