Stop deaths in custody and achieve justice for First Nations People

To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives, the petition of the undersigned recognise that:

To stop First Nations deaths in custody we must keep First Nations peoples out of the criminal justice system. The over policing and incarceration of First Nations people must end. More than 580 Aboriginal and Torres Strait People have died in custody since the Royal Commission in 1991, and First Nations peoples are incarcerated at a rate 14 times higher than non-First Nations people.

And calls on the Honourable Speaker and Members of the House of Representatives:

To implement every recommendation from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, co-design and implement Justice Reinvestment programs, increase funding for legal assistance services and work with the states and territories to raise the age of criminal responsibility.
