100% public homes on Parramatta Rd Dive Sites
Since the completion of WestConnex, there have been several vacant lots along Parramatta Road near Bland and Alt Street in our very own North Ashfield and Haberfield.
These plots are close to public transport, shops, and schools. As your local councillor, I've been advocating for them to be used to build much needed public housing to address the current crisis. The social housing wait list has hit over 60,000 households, and governments need to take responsibility.
By investing in public housing, we make all housing more affordable. At the height of a housing crisis, we need to treat housing as a right, not an investment.
I pass by these spots everyday while walking to the bus and think about the amazing public amenity we could build there, places for working families to live and play.
In 2025 ABC reported that "The NSW government has ruled out setting aside three former WestConnex tunnelling sites in inner-city Sydney for social housing." At the local level Labor have voted down my calls to stop these sites being sold off by Chris Minns’ and NSW Labor’s privatisation agenda.
Thanks to our campaigning these sites are back on the agenda. However, Chris Minns and NSW Labor Government have just announced their plans to develop the sites - with 70% being flogged off to their developer mates in the private market.
Across Sydney and the Inner West, Chris Minns and the Labor government have been selling off public land, and as the social hosing wait list hits over 60,000 people, we cannot let Minns take away our opportunity for public homes.100% of public land should be used for public good, not to generate private profit.
I, and your local Greens, want to make sure the dive sites are used for public benefit, not private profit.
