The Greens Plan to stop koala extinction
Koalas will become extinct before 2050 if urgent action isn’t taken to protect their habitat, according to the 2020 NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Koalas.
An estimated 8,000 koalas were killed in the Black Summer fires, with now less than 20,000 wild koalas left in NSW.
If we don’t intervene now, it will be too late.
Thanks to tireless community campaigning – alongside the Greens – the NSW Government has announced the area for the Great Koala National Park and paused logging for 10 weeks.
It’s an incredible victory to the community, but the park is not yet legally protected. Until it’s declared a National Park, koalas remain at risk. We must keep the pressure on to make the park a reality.
The Greens has a plan to make the Great Koala National Park a reality, and protect koalas from extinction.
