IPC correct to reject Star Casino overdevelopment

2019-11-20

Today the proposed Star casino town in Pyrmont has been rejected by the Independent Planning Commission.

Greens planning spokesperson Jamie Parker MP says:

"This proposal was so excessive even the pro-development Independent Planning Commission had no alternative other than to refuse it.

"The proposal would have monstered the surrounding community, was poorly designed, and would have overshadowed neighbouring low-rise homes. It was just another ad-hoc developers dream.

"The Greater Sydney Commission has signalled the development of a more strategic approach to the Pyrmont precinct which includes the suburb of Ultimo in the Electorate of Balmain. This approach has been welcomed by the community in Ultimo.

"Density and scale have a place in our city but they need to be introduced in an integrated and strategic way.

"This refusal should send a clear message to the government that ad-hoc developments that are about gratuitous profiteering over public good are simply out of step with modern planning principles," he says.
