Balmain West ferry service to resume on the 18th of August

2025-07-23

Ferry services will return to Balmain West Wharf at Elliott Street for the first time in a decade after it was controversially removed from the ferry network in 2013.

Work to get the Balmain West Wharf back online started in December, with Transport for NSW confirming today that the service will commence running on the 18th of August. The route will operate as part of the F3 Parramatta River Route.

Kobi Shetty MP for Balmain says:

“This is an excellent outcome for improved public transport connectivity in the Inner West.

“Who doesn’t love a commute by ferry? We are so fortunate to have access to the water, and since the Rozelle interchange opened our community has been really keen for more public transport choices so they can avoid getting stuck in their cars.

“I’ve been working with the NSW Labor Government to ensure they follow through on their commitment to our community to re-open this wharf, so this news is incredibly welcome.

“Returning the Balmain West Ferry will give residents a quicker and more sustainable option to get into the city – helping to ease local congestion.

“At least once a week someone asks me when this service will re-open, so I know this announcement will make our community very happy.

“Next step for the NSW Government should be delivering the much-needed ferry to Annandale. Hundreds in my community have come out in support of this request, and it’s another promise we need to ensure the Minns Labor Government will deliver.”
