Botany bomb threat arrests

Comments attributable to Sue Higginson MLC, spokesperson for justice in regards to arrest made over bomb threat in Botany.

“I really hope this arrest brings long overdue relief for the victim. These threats have taken an enormous toll on him and his loved ones, exacerbated by unacceptable delay from police and the indifference of the Minister.”

"The man arrested today was known to police. Known, because the victim provided his name and address on the day the bomb was discovered, over two months ago.”

“It’s disappointing that even in the police statement today, they downplay the seriousness of the threat. What they call a ‘suspicious object’ was immediately identified it as an improvised explosive device to the victim by the investigating officer.”

“This was incendiary material in a device designed to look like a bomb that was placed on someone’s car at their home. It came with a threat that was explicitly lethal, politically-motivated, and terrifying. In no uncertain terms, this is a serious incident.”

“The victim was moved to fly the Palestinian flag in response to the unbearable scenes of suffering we are witnessing in Palestine. For this he has been put through hell.”
