A statement from the Co-Convenors

2018-08-03

Last night we watched a program on the ABC’s 7:30 about the Greens and sexual assault. We were shocked and concerned with what was shown and to hear about the experience of a number of members of the Greens NSW.”

“Firstly to the women featured on the episode we send our heartfelt empathy and gratitude for their bravery in coming forward.

“We’re appalled for those involved who have had this experience where they feel our process has failed them and have felt that their only recourse was to go to the media.

As Co-Convenors of the Greens NSW we will work with party members to deal with the complaints aired on the ABC’s 730 and to ensure our processes protect survivors and complainants.

“The Greens NSW have already taken steps to review our sexual harassment policy and we have introduced positive consent training.

“These are steps in the right direction but it is clear as a party we need to do more. Our aim is to build the Greens NSW so it is a safe place for all.
