Irfan Hai

Candidate for Oatley

Hi, I’m Irfan a local resident, educator, sustainability campaigner, Justice of the Peace, and Georges River Bushcare volunteer. I’m committed to building a fairer, more connected, and sustainable community.

I passionately believe our area deserves honest leadership, transparency, and long-term thinking. I’m running because broken promises, overdevelopment, and rising living costs are making it harder for people to build a secure future. I want to help create a community where people and nature thrive together, and where we embrace the clean energy transition to create the jobs of the future.

I love this area because it is home. Having lived here for more than 30 years playing soccer for local clubs, fishing and crabbing in Botany Bay, and enjoying our unique natural beauty. I have a deep connection to this place and a strong desire to protect what makes it special for all of us.

As a Head Teacher and Education Leader at TAFE NSW, I’m driven by wellbeing, social justice, and peace. I know communities are doing it tough. Simple things are becoming difficult, families are living paycheque to paycheque while bills pile up, and small businesses are closing their doors under the weight of soaring rents and tough economic conditions. Household budgets are being squeezed by rising interest rates and the cost of living, leaving little to nothing left for a rainy day.

Our communities deserve better: a future where people can afford to live, work, raise their families, and feel secure. Everyone deserves a safe home, affordable food, world-class healthcare, and quality education. Together, we can be the change.

The Greens are committed to making public transport more accessible and affordable, including working toward free public transport during these challenging times while protecting renters from unfair rent increases. We support economic stimulus that aligns with net-zero initiatives and advocate for our natural resources to be returned to public hands. Finally, we work hand in hand with First Nations peoples to honour their knowledge, culture, and deep connection to country, ensuring they have a meaningful voice in shaping our shared future.

As your local representative, I will do my absolute best to listen to your concerns, amplify your voice, and serve as a strong conduit between our community and government to help make life better for everyone.
