Hi, I’m Liz and I’m standing as the Greens candidate for Parramatta in the upcoming Federal election.
I’ve lived and worked in Western Sydney my whole life. The major parties have been taking Western Sydney for granted, ignoring what our communities are asking for and instead caving in to corporate donors. I’ve spent years signing petitions, attending rallies, calling and emailing my representatives. I’ve tried to get them to listen, but nothing changes. They just tinker around the edges without addressing the real causes of systemic injustice.
I have come to realise the major parties have sold out to the big corporations. They just won’t listen to the community when big money speaks louder. We need to have a strong Greens representative that will stand up for what people in our community really need.
I am proud to have been selected to be that voice for Parramatta to drive the change we need.
I’m passionate about language, communication and accessibility. I completed my Masters in Japanese Translation and Interpreting at Western Sydney University. I run a freelance business translating and subtitling Japanese media into English.
I started as a Live TV Captioner at Red Bee Media, and now manage a team of Captioners and Audio Describers working around the country to provide accessibility across TV channels, events and parliament for Deaf/hard of hearing and vision impaired communities. It’s my job to make sure that everyone in Australia has access to important information in the news, but also to dramas, comedies, documentaries and reality TV.
As Australians, we always talk about the fair go and mateship. I want to stand up for people in our community, because no matter who you are, you deserve to live with dignity, in affordable, sustainable, accessible housing. You deserve to be able to get a good education no matter your parents’ income. You deserve to be able to get medical care and support you need, including mental and dental. You deserve to have convenient public transit and safe active transport options available to you. You deserve to have a future that isn’t overshadowed by wars, discrimination, or the climate crisis.
