Call for sanctions against Israel in line with international law
Israel is responsible for war crimes in Gaza and throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The government of Netanyahu is committing in Gaza what the International Court of Justice has called ‘plausible genocide’ and yet the ALP Australian government has not taken any substantial action.
The Greens are calling for targeted sanctions on the entire Israeli war cabinet which is in line with international law and our obligations as signatories to the Genocide Convention.
In December 2023, Australia imposed targeted financial sanctions, and travel bans on ten Russian individuals, including a Deputy Minister, who were linked to the politically motivated arrest, trial and sentencing of a democracy activist in Russia.
And yet with more than 30,000 Palestinians killed in the indiscriminate Israeli bombardment of Gaza and the collective punishment of a whole civilian population including starvation, the Australian government has not taken sufficient action against those Israelis who are responsible for the unparalleled carnage and destruction throughout Gaza.
We call on the Australian government to impose targeted sanctions on Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s war cabinet.
