Greens spokesperson for Trade, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said:
“There is a lot to consider in the Australia–EU trade deal, but it could be a positive step if it delivers genuine benefits for people, workers and the environment.
“I have had initial talks with Minister Farrell and will continue to engage constructively as we work through the detail.
“I will be kicking the tires on the Agreement's climate and environmental commitments to see what they actually deliver. Commitments are one thing, how they are implemented is what really matters.
“The Greens will continue consulting with community and industry stakeholders as we scrutinise this deal. The final text of the Agreement is not yet complete and must go through the usual parliamentary inquiry process. The Greens party room will make the final call on our position in due course.
“The Liberals and Nationals are all over the shop because they are letting One Nation lead them by the nose. They are so obsessed with any mention of climate change that they seem incapable of having a sensible conversation about trade policy. That is not a serious way to approach an agreement with one of Australia’s major economic partners.
“Dumping net zero and chasing Pauline Hanson down the anti-climate, anti-science, anti-trade rabbit hole shows Angus Taylor just isn’t up to the job of defending Australia’s best interests, either here or overseas.
