The Australian Greens say that Clive Palmer's marriage equality plan will not solve discrimination.
"This civil scheme would exist alongside marriage and create a hierarchy of relationship recognition. It certainly wouldn't solve discrimination," The Greens spokesperson on Marriage Equality, Senator Robert Simms, said.
"There is no need to make this a complex issue. The solution here is just to amend the marriage act."
The Greens bill currently before the Parliament would allow same-sex couples the right to marry, but ministers of religion would not be forced to perform marriages.
