Greens to bring marriage equality to Senate vote on Thursday

2016-03-15

The Australian Greens will be moving to bring the issue of marriage equality to a vote in the Senate on Thursday.
"This matter has been debated in the community and the parliament for years, it's time for a vote," Greens marriage equality spokesperson Senator Robert Simms said.
"The Labor party has private senators' time available on Thursday and we will be moving to use this time to debate and vote on the Greens' marriage equality bill.
"We hope the ALP will seize this opportunity to finally let the Senate have its say on this matter. Over the next 48 hours we hope Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will reconsider his position and finally grant his party a free vote so marriage equality can become a reality."
