The Australian Greens have announced that they will vote down the government’s childcare package if it refuses to commit to guaranteeing vulnerable Australian families a minimum of 15 hours of subsidised care per week.
“This is about fairness and giving all Australian children the start in life that they deserve,” Senator Hanson-Young said.
“We have a chance at securing meaningful, positive change to the childcare sector here, but only if the government allows the Senate to fix their bill.
“I will be moving amendments to the bill that will guarantee vulnerable Australian families a minimum of 15 hours of subsidised care per week.
“There are other areas of the bill that need improving, such as the income threshold at which these minimum hours will be made available, and I urge the cross bench to support this essential measure.
“This reform is too important and we owe it to our children to get it right.”
