Greens wish Kate Ellis well, gear up to campaign for seat of Adelaide

2017-03-09

South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has wished Labor MP Kate Ellis well after the Lower House MP announced she will not be re-contesting the seat of Adelaide at the next Federal Election.

“The race is on in Adelaide and we will be pulling out all the stops to turn Adelaide Green at the next election,” Senator Hanson-Young said.

“The people of Adelaide deserve a strong progressive voice in Canberra. They need someone who will stand up for job security, housing affordability, equality and the environment.

“Adelaide is, undoubtedly, the best city in Australia, but we can’t take that for granted anymore!

“Our state’s environment is being put at risk through proposals for nuclear waste dumps and companies trying to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight. Only the Greens will stand up for our environment and the tens of thousands of jobs that it supports.

“Kate has advocated strongly for Adelaide since her election in 2004 and I wish her all the very best.”
