The Labor and Liberal Parties’ decision to vote against a Senate motion calling for the end of all moves towards ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) is very concerning, the Australian Greens have said.
“This monster deal was built by big business, for big business and it will leave regular Australians worse off,” the Greens’ Finance and Trade spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
“Not only is this a disaster of a deal for the Australian public, it’s doomed due to the political situation in the US. Why can’t Labor and the Liberals let it go?
“The Parliament should stop flogging this dead horse and immediately cease all moves towards ratifying the TPP.
“We need to get major corporations out of the trade negotiation process and inject a little transparency.
“As long as these deals are stitched together by big business, for big business, they will never be fair.
“I call on the Labor and the Liberal Party to stand up for regular Australian people and vote to knock the TPP off, once and for all.”
