Liberals must rule out HECS grab from the dead

2016-03-23

The Australian Greens say the Government must rule out collecting HECS from the dead and hiking up university fees in order to make up its budget shortfall, following speculation the idea is in consideration.
"We know the Liberals hound students while they are alive and now they are even considering chasing them beyond the grave," Greens higher education spokesperson Senator Robert Simms said.
"It seems another one of Christopher Pyne's failed policies is haunting Simon Birmingham. This is just further evidence that as Tony Abbott says, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is merely offering a continuation of his predecessor's unpopular policies.
"The Government has to stop viewing students as cash cows and consider other avenues to stay afloat in the lead up to the federal budget."
