The Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) and the Federal Government yesterday debunked a proposal by some of the crossbenchers to pause the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
Under questioning from Senator Robert Simms, Greens spokesperson for Water and the Murray Darling Basin, the MDBA confirmed there are no plans to suspend the Authority.
"This well and truly spells the end of this debate about the future of the Murray Darling Basin Plan," Senator Simms said.
"There is no support or evidence to back up the claims made by Senator Madigan and some of the crossbenchers that the plan needs to be reassessed. Neither the Government nor the Authority has any appetite for this proposal.
"Indeed, it would be completely unworkable."
