The Leader of the Australian Greens, Richard Di Natale, has congratulated his colleague Sarah Hanson-Young on being named a World Economic Forum, Young Global Leader for 2016.
Senator Hanson-Young will join the 120 other Young Global Leaders for 2016 which include a woman whose company regrows damaged human bones; a scientist developing technology that reuses radioactive waste; ministers shaking up politics; future business leaders; and human rights activists.
“I want to congratulate my colleague, Senator Hanson-Young, on this fantastic achievement,” Senator Di Natale said.
“Through her work in the Federal Parliament, Sarah has fought to give venerable people a voice when they would otherwise be voiceless.
“I want to thank the World Economic Forum for recognising Sarah's contribution to the national and international human rights debate,” Senator Di Natale said.
As one of only three Australian Young Global Leaders in 2016, Senator Hanson-Young said she was honoured to receive the recognition and was looking forward to working with her fellow nominees.
“I want to use this recognition to continue fighting for the rights of people seeking asylum across the globe,” Senator Hanson-Young said.
“There has never been a more important time to stand up for the people among us who need our protection.
“I want to thank the World Economic Forum for this award, along with all of those who support me in my work.”
