The Australian Greens have secured time on Thursday to debate the Greens' Marriage Equality Amendment Bill and are calling on the Government, ALP and crossbenchers to vote in favour of the reform.
"The Greens have secured an opportunity to bring on a vote in the senate for marriage equality this Thursday during private senator's time," Greens marriage equality spokesperson Senator Robert Simms said.
"Today we've seen misleading and outrageous claims from Labor that the Greens voted against our own same-sex marriage bill. This is simply untrue.
"The same cannot be said of the ALP who voted against a Greens marriage equality Bill back in 2010.
"We hope Labor will support this bill, and that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull allows his party a free vote so Australia can finally make marriage equality happen. It's time to end marriage discrimination and recognise love is love."
