Stay strong on Basin Plan: Greens

2016-04-21

The Australian Greens are urging state governments to stay strong on maintaining environmental water recovery targets ahead of a meeting of State and Commonwealth Water Ministers in Brisbane tomorrow.
"The Basin Plan, which aims to recover 3200gL of water for the environment, has cross-party support and broad community stakeholder support. The Basin Plan was years in the making - given it is still in the process of being implemented it would be irresponsible to reduce environmental flows by 650gL at a time when we need to continue strengthening the health of the Murray Darling," Greens water spokesperson Senator Robert Simms said.
"With an election on the horizon, the community has a right to know whether the government will be making the long term health of the Murray Darling Basin a priority."
