Valentine’s Day message of equality from Greens Senator Robert Simms

2016-02-15

Australian Greens marriage equality spokesperson Senator Robert Simms has sent a cheeky Valentine's Day message to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and government and crossbench senators to say love is love and everyone, regardless of sexuality, should be treated equally.
"I've sent 42 Valentine's Day cards to my colleagues in the senate this week ahead of the international day of love this Sunday," Senator Simms said.
"The message is simple - Cupid doesn't discriminate and neither should our law. Love is love.

"Tensions can mount while the issue is debated in the chamber so sending this simple message of equal love was a good way to wish my colleagues well on Valentine's Day and remind them what this debate is all about.
"With the government hell-bent on pushing forward with its costly and divisive plan to hold a plebiscite on marriage equality, I wanted to send these cards to my senate colleagues to remind them that we have the authority to resolve this matter."
