Alexandra McGee

Candidate for Florey

Hi, I’m Alexandra.

I’m running because I want to offer an alternative choice to my community, and I believe the policies and values of the Greens will provide an ethical and sustainable path for the future in South Australia, incorporating both care for the environment and people.

Living in this part of Adelaide, I have connected with many community members over the last few years through my voluntary work, sports and community events, and I understand that people desire change. Our population is beautifully diverse in background, age, experiences and culture, and I believe I can gather those voices to bring ongoing opportunities and support. Sustainable living, public, as well as active transport, access to education and training are all areas of interest to me, and I commit to enabling representation that will focus on bringing infrastructure equity to this seat. We can do a lot to make sure our community is a safe environment to live in, to grow, to age and to participate, regardless of demographic.

As an educator and teacher, as a recruitment manager,I have worked at TAFE with adult migrants and refugees, taught and trained teachers at the University of Adelaide and the International College of Hotel Management, and run leadership projects for young people through Welcoming Australia. As a volunteer, I have been involved with Girl Guides and Backpacks for Kids SA.

Sustainability and a sustainable future for all are the motivators that drive me to educate myself, to connect with people and to work towards this campaign. I strongly believe that we need to provide equity as well as equality, and that without justice for all, we cannot thrive as a country. We are a nation of immigrants who must recognise and respect the people who were already here, and together we can build a more cohesive future with sustainability and environmental care underpinning everything we do.
