Mat Monti

Hi, I'm Mat Monti.

I'm a young person, a renter, and community activist. My political experiences comes from grassroots, community lead movements, fighting for things that people need and speaking truth to power.

Growing up in a working-class community on the Leferve Peninsula, I was confronted with the realities of economic and social inequality from a young age. My parents never owned our home growing up, so I was constantly aware that we were one bad inspection, or one rent increase away from being forced to find a new place to live.

I moved out and became a renter myself, and like so many people in my generation, I fear I'll never own my own home, and just like me, my future children will never know the feeling of having a childhood home.

That's why I'm running, to give a voice to people who are struggling to make ends meet, while corporations are making record profits.

The Greens want to take on the price-gouging corporations, tax them and fund the things we all need: a freeze and cap on rent increases, making sure you can see the doctor for free, wiping all student debt, and raising all Centrelink payments above the poverty line.
