Hi, I'm Sharon Holmes
I’m running for the Greens because this is the party with the best track record for helping vulnerable people in our community, ensuring transparency in all levels of government, caring for the land and taking action on climate change.
I attended Reidy Park Primary and Mount Gambier High schools and I have lived here nearly all my life. As a local family & criminal defence lawyer and relief teacher, I have had plenty of opportunity to notice people struggling – and also to appreciate the power and strength our community can generate when we unite and work together to protect our rights and our environment.
Mount Gambier politics is in a time of transition. And needs a shakeup. Both major parties are putting the interests of their big corporate donors ahead of our community.
Voting for me is voting for:
- Improved rental availability and options for first home buyers
- Finding and retaining regular teachers for our classrooms
- Better transparency in our councils
- Increased opportunities for employment and small business
- More local GPs and access to allied and mental health services
- Improved care for our elderly and people with disabilities
- More thoughtful policy for the Mount Gambier Gaol
- Protection of our beaches from erosion
- Managing the algal bloom
- Reducing waste and improving recycling options for our soft plastics
- Improved community and state public transport
- Extension of our bicycle trails
- Action on climate change
- No fracking
- A fairer and more inclusive community.
If elected, I will work passionately for our community. Living shouldn’t cost us the earth.
