Thanks to the Greens, there will now be a major and independent review into sustainable planning and development in the Molonglo Valley.

It is 9 years since the first land release in the Molonglo Valley. With 15 more years of development to come, we need to lift the standard of development.

When it comes to high-quality environmental sustainability, social sustainability and transport in the Molonglo Valley, local residents have been clear that there is serious room for improvement.

The Molonglo Valley needs:

  • More room for more trees
  • Better local shops
  • More low-cost land for scouts and guides, religious and multi-cultural groups
  • A commitment to a new bus service to Whitlam
  • Better off-road cycling connections to the City and Belconnen
  • Better solar orientation of homes, and
  • No more scraping the entire suburb bare of vegetation and topsoil as it is built.

The Greens think it is time to review what has been built so far and lift the standard.

Thanks to our Greens efforts in the Assembly, there will now be a major and comprehensive review into sustainable development in the Molonglo Valley.

.

The Greens have long advocated for excellence in sustainable design in the Molonglo Valley.

In our Parliamentary Agreement with the Labor Party for the 7th Assembly, we committed the Government to “deliver high-quality, sustainable design: including a third pipeline for non-potable water; construction of public transport infrastructure from the outset of the development; mandatory solar passivity; and pedestrian friendly design”. This was only partially completed.

The Parliamentary Agreement for the last Assembly also called for a Molonglo Cycle Highway feasibility study.
