ACT Greens: New Woden CIT campus a chance to 'give back to the community'

2020-02-26

“Like so many in the Woden Valley, the Greens have long argued that Woden is in desperate need of urban renewal," ACT Greens Member for Murrumbidgee Caroline Le Couteur said today.

“Woden desperately needs more community meeting spaces, a proper community hub, indoor sports and recreation facilities, and more green space in the Town Centre.

“If built with community in mind, the new CIT campus is a great opportunity to give back to Woden Valley residents.

“The best way to achieve this is to ensure that all community spaces are made available for community use, not just for those on campus.

“Separately, the proposed community hub in Woden should also see a fuller range of community facilities provided to our local community.

“Given how close they are to one another, the Government should also look into whether the proposed community hub in Woden could share the CIT building. Between the two buildings, what the Woden community wants and needs could be provided to the community to use both in and out of hours.

“It’s also great to see that the preliminary planning includes possible indoor sports facilities, as the ACT Greens have long recognised the need for more of this in Woden. We look forward to seeing these plans in greater detail to ensure these meet community needs.”
