Local community groups are encouraged to apply for the latest round of the ACT Government’s environmental grants, which provide financial support to community-based environment projects.

“So many Canberrans care deeply about our environment,” Minister for Environment Rebecca Vassarotti said. “This $300,000 worth of grants will support local people and organisations conserve and enhance our natural environment in our urban areas and parkland.

“The ACT Government initiated this grants program in 1997 and since then the program has supported over 350 projects.

“Local conservation groups and individuals use grants like these to care for and develop Canberra’s natural environment and support the ACT Government’s long-term objectives of a sustainable and resilient city.

“Last year we saw funding go to a number of important projects, including the creation of bird and bee friendly gardens in Holder, managing weed threats in Ginninderra Creek, even an innovative nest box project for our threatened bird species.

“These grants are a proven way to assist Canberrans in looking after our unique and amazing environment.”

The 2021–2022 ACT Environment and Nature in the City grants program opens today and closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday 21 April 2021.
