Today the Greens have unveiled their vision for a better normal for older Canberrans. Too often, people find their lives becoming progressively smaller and more limited as they age, in ways that frustrate and frighten them. Older people can face many obstacles to full participation in the community. These can be structural and systemic barriers, financial constraints, lack of confidence and trust, and more.
The Greens believe it doesn’t have to be this way. Today we’ve unveiled a package of support for older persons that will help them get around the city, get the information they need and strengthen their protection against elder abuse. The package includes expanding the Official Visitor Scheme, funding the Older Persons Abuse Line, improving palliative care services, and making homes, streets and transport more accessible.
